What's Included, From Base to Roof
We look after the whole porch from the ground up. That covers the base and groundwork, brick dwarf walls matched to your house where you want them, the frames, the glazing, the door, the roof and the guttering.
Whatever your porch needs, we build it ourselves or arrange it with qualified trades who we know and work with regularly, so you have one team taking care of everything from your first home visit to the final clean-up.
You can choose a fully glazed porch for the most light, or a porch on brick dwarf walls with windows above for more privacy and a more solid look. We match the brick as closely as we can to your house, so the porch looks as though it was built at the same time.
Porches for Period and Cotswold Homes
Older homes across the Cotswolds often have lower doorways and character you'll want to keep. We make non-standard front doors from 1740mm high to fit the doorways of period cottages and farmhouses, so your new porch sits naturally with the rest of the house.
A tiled roof matched to your main roof, dwarf walls in a brick close to your own, and windows in the same style as the rest of the house all help a new porch look as though it has always been there.
Older homes that do not have an entrance hall, meaning that when you open the front door, cold air fills the house, particularly benefit from a new front porch.
Here is one of our previous installations in Shipston-on-Stour, Warwickshire, of a White uPVC Porch with internal Georgian Bars on a matching stone dwarf wall.

White uPVC Porch in Alcester
This is one of our completed uPVC porches with a rubber flat roof for a bungalow in Alcester, Warwickshire.
The porch sits on a low brick base matched to the house, with French doors at the front and a second door on the side fitted with a letterbox, so post and parcels arrive safely inside the porch.
The lower panels give the porch a neat, solid finish and keep the space private, and the glazing above lets in plenty of light. Gold handles and letter plate add a smart finishing detail, and black guttering and a downpipe carry rainwater away cleanly. The rubber roof gives a long-lasting, watertight finish that sits neatly under the existing roofline.
Adding a porch at the front or rear of your home can change your property's look. It gives you a spare area to keep your outdoor clothes, bags and dog leads, offers another barrier to keeping the cold out, and helps dirt stay out of the house.
Based in Stratford-upon-Avon, Prior Products installs porches across Warwickshire including Warwick, Leamington Spa, Alcester, Evesham and the surrounding towns.
Door, Window and Roof Options
The door sets the character of your porch. You can choose a uPVC door, a composite door or a Solidor composite door, in a wide range of colours, styles and glass designs. You can try different looks with our Composite Door Designer before your home visit.
The windows in your porch can match those in your house, so the whole frontage looks as though it was built as one. You can choose clear glass for light, or obscure and decorative glass for privacy.
For the roof, you have three options. A tiled roof blends in with the main house and gives your porch a solid, permanent feel. A glass roof brings in plenty of light and makes a small porch feel open. A flat roof gives a clean, modern line and works well on contemporary homes and under first-floor windows.

The Benefits of Adding a Porch
A porch is one of the hardest-working additions you can make to your home, because you use it every single day. Every time your front door opens, cold air, rain and draughts rush straight into the hallway. A porch stops them at the outer door, so your hallway stays warmer and your heating has less work to do through the winter months.
It also gives you the space you've been missing. Coats, boots, umbrellas, the dog's lead and the school bags all have a home of their own, so the mess stays at the door, and the rest of the house stays tidy. Muddy shoes come off before they reach the carpet, wet dogs can be towelled down, and you have somewhere dry to stand while you find your keys with your arms full of shopping.
A porch adds a second locked door between the street and your home. Parcels can be left safely out of sight and out of the rain, and your main front door sits behind a secure outer entrance.
The front of your house changes too. A well-designed porch gives your home a proper entrance and a strong first impression from the street, and it adds useful space buyers notice when the time comes to sell. Your visitors are greeted under cover, and the way into your home feels finished and welcoming.
Choosing Your Porch Style
Every porch we build is made to measure, so you can choose the style that suits your house and the way you'll use the space.
Enclosed Front Porches
An enclosed front porch gives you a sealed, lockable room in front of your main door. It keeps the weather out, cuts heat loss from your hallway and gives you secure space for coats, shoes and parcels. With double glazed windows and a well-insulated roof, an enclosed porch holds its warmth right through the winter.
Brick and Half-Brick Porches
A brick porch, sometimes called a half-brick porch, sits on low dwarf walls built to match your house, with uPVC windows above. The brickwork gives the porch a solid, permanent look, adds privacy at the lower level and leaves wall space for a radiator, sockets or a shoe rack. We match the brick as closely as we can to your home, and on stone cottages we build the dwarf walls in stone.
Fully Glazed Porches
A fully glazed porch uses double glazed panels from the base upwards and fills your entrance with light. It suits modern homes and smaller porches, and you can choose obscure or decorative glass in the lower panels for privacy.
Do I need planning permission for a porch?
In England, a porch is usually permitted development, so long as the ground floor area is no more than 3 square metres, no part of it is higher than 3 metres above ground level, and no part of it sits within 2 metres of a boundary next to a road. Listed buildings need consent, and some areas have extra local rules. We talk this through with you at your home visit so you know where you stand before any work begins.
In the meantime, you can check with your local council.
How much does a uPVC porch cost?
The cost of your porch depends on several things. The quality of the materials and fixings has a real effect on the price, and the difficulty for you as the customer is knowing the difference. Porches look much the same on the day they are fitted.
It's only in time that you start to see doors dropping because the hinges aren't sturdy enough, or frames bowing because the reinforcement inside isn't strong enough.
The fitting makes a difference too. Your porch door needs to open and close smoothly, and that relies on a level, square build from the base upwards. Day-rate subcontractors who value speed over quality are a known problem in our industry. Our installers work full time for us, so they take the time each porch needs to be built properly.
uPVC is the most affordable of the three porch materials, and it gives you a porch that is strong, warm and easy to look after. The price is also the same whatever the size or value of your house. A porch costs the same on a two-bed bungalow in a Cotswold village as it does on a large family home in Stratford-upon-Avon. A free home visit gives you an accurate figure for your porch.
The better question is often about value over time. A well-made composite door, properly installed, will last for decades with very little maintenance. The security, the thermal performance, and the kerb appeal it adds to your home all factor into that equation.
We're happy to provide a full quote based on exactly what you want.
Is finance available for a uPVC porch?
Yes. Prior Products offers flexible finance options, including 0% interest finance, so you can spread the cost of your new porch over manageable monthly payments. Our team will explain the options and help you find a payment plan that suits you, and you can talk it through during your home survey.
Will a porch keep my house warmer?
A porch creates a buffer between your front door and the weather, so less cold air comes into the house each time the door opens.
If the postman leaves something wedged in the letterbox, allowing air in, a porch contains that so you don't come home to a freezing.
Double glazing, a well-sealed door and a properly built base and roof all help the porch hold its warmth.
Will a porch make my home more secure?
A porch adds a second locked door between the outside and your home. Your porch door comes with multi-point locking, and your main front door stays behind it, so parcels, coats and bikes sit safely out of sight.
How long does it take to fit a porch?
Once the base is ready, fitting a porch usually takes a few days. We give you a clear timeline at your home visit, so you know what to expect.
How do I look after a uPVC porch?
A uPVC porch needs very little care. A wipe down with warm soapy water keeps the frames bright, and a drop of oil on the locks and hinges once or twice a year keeps the door working smoothly.
Will a porch add value to my home?
A well-built porch improves the look of your house from the street and gives you useful space every day, both of which buyers notice and could make your home more saleable.
A porch can set it apart from similar houses and help you get the asking price.
The key is a porch that suits the house, with matching brick, a roof that sits naturally with the main roof and a door in keeping with the style of the property.
